Overview

Loop ride beginning in town, utilizing Camp Elevation as a link between the Whipple Trails and the Midland Trails.

Need to Know

This loop ride description begins and ends in town because finishing on a downhill is fun! Also, South Main and (Old) Main Street areas have a lot to offer, including great restaurants, a hotel, bike shops, etc.

In addition to the large parking lot near South Main Street, there is also a large parking area at the east end of (Old) Main Street past the school and ball fields.

There are numerous access points to the BV Trails offering parking. The Mt. Princeton Overlook area is nice with bathrooms, but requires an entry fee or state parks pass. It's located at the bottom of Fistful of Dollars (6034).

There is some parking at the north end of the Midland Bike Trail and the top of Fistful of Dollars (6034), but this can fill up on weekends, and is not at the bottom of the trail requiring a climb back to the vehicle.

There are a few parking spaces at Road 303 at the turn for the KOA. There is a short section of trail connecting from this parking to Few Dollars More Trail.

Description

Park in the large gravel parking lot south of South Main Street. Pedal south and cross the Arkansas River to the Bridge to Bridge Trail, climb to and turn right onto Camp Elevation. Climb to Camp Elevation South and ride south to Fistful of Dollars (6034).

Turn left and climb to the Midland Bike Trail. Continue south/southeast on Midland Bike Trail to Sausage Link. Turn left and climb Sausage Link to Bacon Bits (1450A). Descend Bacon Bits (1450A) back to the Midland Bike Trail. Cross Midland Bike Trail and begin Unchained. Unchained does have wildlife closures from Dec. 1 through April 15. If closed, take Midland Bike Trail to Django.

At the end of Unchained, turn left and descend Django to and across Road 304. Climb to Fistful of Dollars (6034), but go left to and descend the Few Dollars More Trail (6034A). At the bottom, go right at a tee intersection and climb Few Dollars More Trail (6034A) back to Fistful of Dollars (6034). Go left and climb Fistful of Dollars (6034) back to Camp Elevation South. Take this back to the driveway at the start of Camp Elevation, but go right up the driveway.

Cross Road 304 (the old Midland Railroad Grade) to Broken Boyfriend South. Ride to and continue onto Broken Boyfriend (6032A) at a three-way intersection. Ride this north to Road 304 and go left to North Loop (6030). Descend to Whipple Main Route (6031). Go right and descend to Bridge to Bridge Trail. Take the lower left onto Bridge to Bridge Trail and ride back to the beginning of the route.

Mount Princeton is the best backdrop.

Django is a good mix of flowy and technical, with a nice backdrop.

Smiling on the small amount of flowy downhill. Great beginning/intermediate techy trail

If you see multi-colored tape hanging from a tree, it typically means that something is coming. Big step up after a loose entry. Traction is good on the rock and surprisingly smooth throughout.

Great drop with smooth landing that can be ridden small or large.

Bring your climbing pants. Not sure if I read the description wrong but I mapped it at just over 3k' of gain, not the 1800 it lists? 22mi

Rode a big loop that consists of most of this. It's a tough loop as you never get to be done with the climbing and put that behind you. Exhausting.
