Figure-eight loop with nice summit views of the Collegiate Peaks.

Start on FR/County 185C to 185, then towards Elk Mountain Ranch on FR 185B. Just short of their front gate, find an old Forest Service trail on your left (185B - 185C Connector). Climb to a T intersection within a few hundred feet and go left. As you go left, watch for a split in the road within the next 0.5 miles. Stay right. (Left is fun and takes you back to 185.) Follow this back to 185C where the route starts.

Follow 185C right (south/southeast) and uphill to the abandoned mining town of Futurity, now private property with public road access, to a steep rocky stretch. The view at the summit is a good reward for a tough start. Next is a nice descent with very few rocks but lots of downed aspen trees. The trail was clear 9/4/2022.

Back on Forest Road/County Road 186 (Bull Gulch) with more descending until you meet the intersection of 188 where 186 turns into 187. Look for an old Forest Service trail on your left (Cottonwood Creek Cutoff). Follow it for some fun rolling terrain through an aspen grove until you meet back at the start on FR185C.
