Overview

This 2,400 acre park offers many trail options with a range of difficulties, including some quite steep hills up to the 6,800' summit.

Views are outstanding from downtown Denver all the way to the high peaks, including three 14'ers.

Wildlife is abundant, and depending on season, you will find rattlesnakes, prairie dogs, coyotes, mule deer, lilies, larkspur, lupine, coneflower, and more.

This was ranched in the 1860's by Alexander Rooney and Jacob Downing and then operated as a cattle ranch until the mid-1900's by the Hayden family.

Visiting Tips

There are no trees anywhere in the park, and the sun exposure makes it HOT! This can be great on a sunny winter day, and often dries out fast after a snow.
