Overview
A great loop of Green Mountain that avoids most of the road. For a great combo longer ride, start with this loop and then head up
Zorro trail to the west of the parking lot up to Dakota Ridge.
Description
Head to the South out of the parking lot and over C-470, Once on the dirt bear right for a short climb and continue around through the flowy section of
Green Mountain Trail after passing the first intersection with
Rooney Valley Connector. You'll meet the
Rooney Valley Trail again in about 3/4ths of a mile.
Continue straight through to remain on
Green Mountain Trail and up the short steep climb. After another more consistent climb, you'll come through another quick flat section before meeting the
Hayden Trail. Turn Left on the Hayden trail to an immediately steep climb, after the first 2 switchbacks the trail becomes more of a steady climb.
When you reach the next trail intersection be sure to make the sharp left in order to stay on the
Hayden Trail. The rest of the Hayden trail winds around the top ridgeline with some loose rocks and amazing views of red rocks. Continue this climb until you get to the road. Bear left on the road for a short downhill and a steep uphill to the peak. At the peak make a sharp left to the cairn at the peak and the
Rooney Valley Trail.
Follow the
Rooney Valley Trail for a fun downhill. Stay right at the first intersection about a mile into the downhill and when you reach the
Green Mountain Loop trail Stay to the right again. A short uphill will reward you with another fast flowy downhill to get back to the bridge across C-470.
