Description

The start of the trail is a steep, rocky uphill climb with switchbacks. After the first hill, there is a gradual climb to the power lines. After crossing the power lines, head up another short steep climb to a little landing in the trees.

Continuing on there is a difficult rock-step straight ahead that can be bypassed using the trail on the right. There is a large tree fall that is blocking what was once a great exposed rock run. After the rock section, the trail is mostly level with options on the right and left for more technical sections. Just before you head out to the power lines again there is a climb with a tricky switchback. Under the power lines there is a nice collection of exposed rock rollers. This section of the trail runs parallel to the Power Lines trail. You can avoid the upcoming crevasse (see picture) by jumping on the Power Lines trail near the rock rollers.

After the crevasse, you head down another short little section and climb back into the tree cover. There are two parallel trail sections here. The path to the right takes you over some technical exposed rock. The trail to the left is a traditional, smooth, non-technical trail. Beware of a tree fall on the trail to the left. It has been cut back but does jut out into the trail some.

The trail continues to head north over flat ground. There is a log skinny that is a ramp up to a rock (see picture) and just before the next downhill section there is a large tree fall that can be ridden.

Next, there is a short little down and up that leads to a rough rocky outcrop on the edge of the ridge. You'll then merge into the main section of the ridge. The next mile of of the trail is pretty flat. This section of the trail has many braids. There are several small tree falls to get over and a few rock piles. The trail starts to head downhill as you approach the radio towers. Keep to the left after passing the radio towers. Coming up will be a decent rock drop off that has a bypass to the right right. Immediately after the rock drop off there is a really long skinny that climbs uphill. Keep to the left. This section of the trail is flat with some rocky areas with roots and a large tree fall on the right that can be bypassed on the left.

The trail then heads steeply downhill. Right at the base of the hill take a hard right. The tree there will be marked with two blue blazes. The path snakes around to meet the Northern Curves. The rest of the trail is a straight shot downhill to Newton Brainerd Road.
