Description

This is the initial portion of the longer Simas Peak Trail (out and back) which allows you to access the start of Toro Loco (aka Valley View) .

I have marked this double black, simply because it is VERY steep in a couple of places - so much so that even on an eMTB one particular section is more hike-a-bike (ie. push up) than rideable... although if you like a challenge then fill your boots!

From the saddle junction of Ollason Trail and Airplane Canyon , Simas Peak Trail continues uphill to the east... after the initial few hundred feet of climbing, you are faced with a very steep section which is currently washed out too, making traction very difficult (and I suspect impossible in the wet) in this uphill direction.

The trail then levels out and follows a ridge, before climbing again up a slightly less steep (ie. rideable) portion, with excellent views on either side.

Once you reach the Valley View lookout (2030ft), Simas Peak Trail continues east to your right, while Toro Loco (aka Valley View) is ahead of you to your left.

If you're an experienced rider and like a challenge, then this is the only way to access the start of Toro Loco - and you'll definitely feel you've earned that particular downhill!
