Local Info

When locals to refer to riding in Eagle County they often use the terms 'Up Valley and Down Valley'.

Up Valley is all about the quintessential aspen and alpine singletrack that Colorado is known for. Vail is at the epicenter. Rides like Meadow Mountain / Line Shack and Whiskey Creek and Bowmans Shortcut to Two Elk are classic. For some new school gravity riding on Vail Mountain, check out Radio Flyer and Big Mamba.

Down Valley is much drier and has a longer riding season. From mid-April to possibly October, mountain bikers can enjoy high sage desert riding. Don't miss the Boneyard Loop and Eagle Ranch Loops, super fun singletrack that surrounds the town of Eagle.

Camping & Lodging

As a very popular resort destination, there are a multitude of places to stay from a tent to 5 star and beyond accommodation. Vail and Beaver Creek have oodles of hotel rooms and condos while Edwards west to Eagle has a handful of hotel options.

Camping is plentiful on USFS and BLM lands throughout the county from primitive sites to established campgrounds.

Visiting Tips

Up Valley - mid June to early October depending on the snow. Some Vail trails on the north side of I-70 are closed until June 15. Two Elk and Whiskey Creek are closed until July 1.

Down Valley - mid April to late October. Town of Eagle trails in Eagle Ranch are closed from December 15-April 15.

Other Activities

The Vail and Eagle Valleys are mountain playgrounds. Rafting, kayaking, and fly-fishing are just a few of the activities available when not riding.
