Overview

A fire road climb up Bread Trail #411 (FR 88A) leads to a short ridge section. The ride finishes with a technical upper descent and a blazing second half of the descent.

Description

This ride starts at Forest Road 92 at the base of Little Sluice Mountain Trail there is parking further into Forest Road 92 if you want to link loops and trails.

Start riding east on Forest Road 92 towards the Johnstown Rd intersection. When at the intersection, turn left onto Forest Road 88. FR 88 will also be blazed yellow as it is part of the Cedar Creek Trail (573).

Follow FR 88 past a seasonal forest service gate. You'll reach Bread Trail #411 (FR 88A) at the end of FR 88 where Cedar Creek Trail (573) turns into dirt doubletrack. Bread Trail #411 (FR 88A) is a breeze compared to many climbs in this northern portion of GWNF.

From the top, continue on Little Sluice Mountain Trail. To the right you can do another loop following Little Sluice Mountain Trail to Tuscarora Trail. It will be doubletrack until you go down Stony Creek Trail back to Forest Road 92. But that is for another day.

Turn left on Little Sluice Mountain Trail after summiting Bread Trail #411 (FR 88A). It will be a climb for about 100 yrds before a gradual ridge ride. Around five miles into the loop, you'll be at your first downhill in the shadow of Little Schloss.

This first portion is rocky then turning left off the ridge and down tight switchbacks. After the tight switchbacks, there is a short, flat section with tough rock moves and a slight incline, this is the hardest part of the trail but is over quickly.

Continuing on, there is another DH portion, followed by a steep short incline. After this short incline, it is all downhill from here. You have a short grind through a very manageable rock garden to the final long DH portion. This ending is fast, with pockets of smaller rocks before getting spit out back onto Forest Road 92.

Long fire road climb to some great overlooks, the only singletrack was rocky and technical with some hike-a-bike spots .. but the rest was fast&fun!
