Overview

This is a good, challenging climb with a short, techy rock climb section. There's a ride-around available. This is followed by a mellow, shaded forest road to the downhill, which is nice and cool in the summer. Your reward for the climb is the Mary Jane link up to Willow Creek.

Need to Know

Willow Creek is a popular hiking trail, use caution. The rock face on Mary Jane is hairball if it's wet. The log crossing over Willow Creek could be dangerous, especially if you attempt to ride it.

Description

Park at the Government Center and head north to Forest Road 6S13. The climb is steep for the first half, then it mellows to a nice grade in the cool trees. At the end of Forest Road 6S13, turn right (east) onto USFS Road 6S11 for a bending easy climb to USFS Road 6S88.

Head south on this Forest Service road looking for the USFS Road 6S88D spur toward Moon Rock. Take a break at Moon Rock and watch out for the broken hillbilly glass and continue to the Mary Jane trail using Shale Trail #22E350 and the Vista Dome Trail #22E349.

Head across USFS Road 6S88 onto Mary Jane for a steep, techy descent through the trees onto USFS Road 7S82 east to carefully cross Willow Creek and charge this steep, technical Jeep climb on Mac Flat Trail.

After that, it's all down on Willow Creek. Cross the Forest Highway 274 for a nice, short singletrack to the low road and back to the parking area.

History & Background

Most of the forest road was once railroad access for logging.
