These trails are historically equestrian and continue to support a large horse community. If it weren't for them there would be no Marshall Canyon, so be very respectful and STOP to let horses pass, even if there is room to zoom by.

Along the golf course, stay off the cart path if the adjacent bike path is available.

Description

This trail is almost completely covered by Oak trees, and is most likely the reason many call it Sherwood Forest. It's some of the prettiest terrain in SoCal. There's a lot of shade, a lot of green, and the soil stays dark and moist when most places are dry as a bone. The bottom part of Marshall Canyon, which this trail covers, is relatively flat so don't look for much of a climb until deeper into the canyon.

Within a quarter of a mile, a wide trail splits uphill to the right, but don't go that way. It twists and rises to a residential street above. Immediately after that, look for a thin singletrack on the right that rises and snakes through the forest for a few dozen yards, bypassing the 6-inch deep creek-crossing you would otherwise have to take... or if it's hot, feel free to get wet like everyone else does.

In a shaded clearing, you'll pass a small horse stable on the right. After a few more creek-crossings, the path rises to emerge from the trees along a golf course. Stay on the dirt and try to avoid using the cart path. The trail dives back into the forest and soon dips into a crossing where it splits, right and left. I always climb on the right, leaving the funner left branch for DH.
