Overview

This route winds through the trails at Karura Forest. The park is a secure, well-fenced and patrolled forest in the heart of Nairobi with well-marked trails.

Need to Know

Entry fee payable. For more information, visit the site: friendsofkarura.org/.

Description

Most visitors start from the main gate or from the KFEET parking. This section of Karura has lots of options to ride along. All the trail junctions are marked with junction numbers.

This route can be ridden in any direction. Most of the trail is doubletrack. Do watch out for walkers who have the right of way. Alert the walkers of your presence. There may be the occasional tree root across the trail.

Along this route, you can get off the bike and visit the Karura Waterfalls at junction marker number 26 or 25 on the Mau Mau Trail. There is one bench provided between marker numbers 9 and 10, a very peaceful area. Picnics are generally not allowed within the forest, though the waterfall area is a nice spot to have one.
