Description

The Lewis and Clark National Historic trail through the Burns area of Wagonhammer connects to five other trails.

The north end of this trail, from Big Silverlead up to the fence and saddle, is singletrack on an old wagon road. It is generally of gentle grade and offers great views of the Wagonhammer country.

From that fence and saddle down into the Burns drainage, the trail steeply follows the right edge of a ravine before crossing it and leveling out. The trail then runs past a water trough and continues down into a small canyon.

The lower end of this trail is a little tricky and can be confusing. After emerging from a narrow canyon, the trail meets Burns Gulch trail. This junction is BEFORE crossing to the small gullies.

There is a cow trail that continues straight across these and climbs to an old dry spring. Do not be lured up this climb or across the gullies...turn around and look for the main Burns Gulch trail should you blow past it.
