Riding on the very edge of the rim is not only extremely dangerous, it's illegal due to raptor breeding habitat. Please stay on the designated trail.

Trail update: May 2022 the trail has been repainted using orange paint to improve route finding. Previously the trail was painted yellow and this proved to be difficult to see on the light colored sandstone.

Description

This trail will either be one of your favorite experiences in Moab, or your worst nightmare, depending on your ability level and desire to push your limits. Advanced riders will find this trail to be a very fun challenge, with constant technical ups and downs on fun rock lines to keep you busy. Everything is rideable, but the line is sometimes hard to see until you're right there. There's some exposure in spots, although it's not as edgy as the Portal.

This trail used to be illegal, but has been re-routed in spots away from the cliff edge to protect raptor nesting habitat (birds of prey, not dinosaurs) and to improve the overall route for cyclists. The trail is marked primarily using orange dashes painted on the rock.

Less advanced technical riders can still follow this route, but you'll probably walk many short sections along the way. At the end of this trail, you can continue to Portal (intense / hike-a-bike for some), or take Poison Spider (longer mileage / very sandy) more of a jeep route, but also much less exposure.

Note that Golden Spike Jeep Road is much harder and more strenuous than the Gold Bar Rim Singletrack and is not recommended for mountain bikes.

Pure, unadulterated MTB Bliss. Sign says expert riders with endurance at the bottom of the climb up for a good reason.

BRUTAL. Unbelievably technical. Expect very slow progress, and anticipate the wearing you down. Killer scenery.

This trail really is just pretty miserable if you are using it to access Portal. The trail is very hard to follow, no road bikers to throw rocks at 3.6mi — 16h 00m
