Need to Know

The only parking is at the Hunting Hollow Entrance lot, and it is $6 per vehicle for day use. The Coyote Creek Entrance (on the map) offers access to the other end of this trail, but there is no parking at that location or anywhere along Gilroy Hotsprings Rd. You much use the Hunting Hollow parking lot, and plan your ride from there.

Description

An alternative to the main Spike Jones Trail, incorporates the singletrack Timm Trail as a fun and flowy descent down to Coit Rd and the Coyote Creek Entrance.

Note that both Timm Trail and Spike Jones Trail are two-way traffic (and open to hikers too), but fortunately there is good visibility pretty much along the whole length. Note also that while Spike Jones can be ridden easily enough in either direction, the Timm Trail portion really works much better as a downhill (in the clockwise direction, west to east) since it is narrow with short steep portions and a number of switchbacks which might make climbing a chore.

Look for the Picnic Bench - Spike Jones Connector from the picnic bench at the top of Jim Donnelly Trail (a lovely shaded rest spot with excellent views) to join Spike Jones a short way from the summit - note this first portion is a very narrow singletrack with some exposure, so be careful of pedal strikes.

So fun. A few steeper pitches (especially the start) but not too many sharp turns. Some gravel patches. narrow singletrack.
