Description
This is a fun alternative way back into the main park from the bottom of
Airplane Canyon.
Once you reach the round water butt at the end of
Airplane Canyon trail, the main route continues straight-ahead (to the left of the water butt) to join
Harper Canyon Trail...
However, if you turn right in front of the water butt, you see a well defined trailhead through the trees, before starting to climb uphill onto an open hillside.
The trail is narrow, but well defined, and levels out to follow the contours while continuing to climb gently towards a small chalk 'quarry' section, with a short steep climb, before it crests the ridge and follows an almost straight line across a meadow towards the track junction at the top of
Harper Canyon Road and
Ranch Trail.
Consider this a more challenging and scenic alternative to continuing west on
Harper Canyon Trail, and as a bonus is approximately half the distance back to the track junction with
Ranch Trail and the return into Toro Park.
