Ancient Oaks Trail

This trail starts at the Audrey C. Rust parking lot and trailhead off Alpine Road. This is also the trailhead to reach the start of Charquin Trail. The lower part of Ancient Oaks is a newer trail with a smooth surface and a generally pleasant grade. It is popular with hikers.

After about a mile, it climbs out of the forest and intersects with a short spur down to Alpine Road.

The trail continues left across a grassy hillside with nice views looking west toward the ocean. Stay left at the Bo Gimbal Trail. Soon you'll reach Charquin Trail, where a left will take you down to the Mindego Lake Trail and back to the trailhead, and right will take you up to other trails and eventually to Skyline Boulevard.
