An awesome gravel grinder from COS to Monument passing through the Rampart Reservoir.

J Erik Hartel

Overview

This is a stunning, 100+ km route from Criterium Bicycles in Colorado Springs up the Front Range.

Need to Know

Both Rampart Range Road and Mount Herman Road are open to vehicle traffic throughout the year. Care should be taken when descending either road due to the potential for oncoming traffic.

Also, neither the New Santa Fe Regional Trail nor the Garden of the Gods are closed for the event, so the utmost caution should taken in these very popular areas.

Description

This is the course for the Rampart Rager - a new, challenging route along the Front Range. The route starts along the New Santa Fe Regional Trail and follows the Sinton Trail and Foothills path to the Garden of the Gods.

This route circumnavigates the main monuments in the Garden before turning westward into the mountains. The subsequent climb up Rampart Range Road is epic with a nearly 4000 ft elevation gain and stunning views of Colorado Springs and Pikes Peak.

After climbing to ~8,000 feet, the route follows well-marked gravel roads around Rampart Reservoir before descending to Monument on Mount Herman Road.

History & Background

This course passes several known mountain-biking areas such as Monument Preserve - which offers access to the Monument Preserve Loop, Mount Herman - Limbaugh Canyon Loop, Trail 715, and a number of other trails. The course also passes the trailhead for the enjoyable Rampart Reservoir Trail.
