“A fun ridgeline trail with excellent views.”
— Kyle F
The trail begins from the signed parking area just below Marks Butte off Freezeout Rd. In just over a mile you'll reach the junction with Gold Center Creek - Trail #251
, which will be the trail you descend back down for the Grandmother Mountain Loop
. Continue on 275 and after approx. 3/4 of a mile you'll meet another junction (signed).
Stay on 275, which begins to climb steeply towards Grandmother Mountain. In approx. another 3/4 mile you meet the summit spur for Grandmother Mountain. 275 will begin to go down from here towards the saddle with Grandfather Mountain. Take the spur up, hike-a-bike, or leave your bike behind, and enjoy the views from atop Grandmother Mountain.
After returning back down from the summit spur the trail drops down to a saddle between Grandmother and Grandfather Mountain. The trail between the two is regarded as the least interesting part of the trail and the final uphill to Grandfather is very steep, rocky and rutted. The views are better from Grandmother because it has fewer trees and is, in fact, a bit higher in elevation, which makes the traverse over to Grandfather not really worth it to most people who ride or hike the trail.
The trail ends at a benchmark just past Grandfather, though some topo maps show the trail continuing by dropping very steeply down to the forest road below.
