The Feather Creek Loops are two great singletrack loops benched into deep, lush forests. They have no outstanding view points or destination. No lakes or rivers. Just great trails flowing through the woods. The trail is either moderately climbing or descending, but never is the trail steep for any sustained distance. The ride can be ridden in any number of directions by mixing up the two loops. I would definitely recommend these trails to most any rider out there. Easy enough for many beginners, playful enough for the most experienced mountain bikers.
Need to Know
The area is rangeland. We were greeted by bovine at the trailhead and along the creek after descending the eastern most section of trail. A mud guard for poop is not necessary but could be nice.
The trails split into the three different choices immediately after crossing the creek from the parking area. We rode up the western most trail which follows Feather Creek for a little over a mile before turning and climbing up to meet the other trails on the ridge. The trail meets up with the Feather Creek Loop Trail - Inner
2.5 miles into the ride. Here you could ride down to complete the smaller 5 mile loop, but we turned left and continued north up the ridge to the top of Feather Creek Loop Trail - Outer
. The descent off the top of the ridge down the eastern most section of the system is fun, really fun. Playful, well built, scenic and isolated.
Big cedars, moss and vine maples make up much of the vegetation down into the Laguna Creek drainage. After descending, the Feather Creek Loop Trail - Outer
levels out along Laguna Creek and follows the creek back to the trailhead. Here you can continue back up to do another loop, or stop by the car for a lunch or beer.
The ride here continues up the Feather Creek Loop Trail - Inner
to then descend the western extent of the Feather Creek Loop Trail - Outer
