“A nice warm up that accesses multiple route options in the South Park system.”— Eduardo Guerrero

The first section of the trail climbs steeply out of the river valley and there are a few switchbacks, the climb can be pretty warm in the summer since there isn't a whole lot of shade, but you are comforted by spectacular views of the American Valley.
You'll reach a junction with Spanish Ridge Trail on your right, it comes down off of the ridge, so ignore it at this point, you can access the ridge at another point (unless you really want to do a very steep climb).
After the junction, the Spanish Traverse trail lives up to its name and follows a contour for quite a while, enjoy the ride!
You'll reach another junction with Ridge Trail, and you can either take it if you want to do a short steep loop to return to the trailhead, or you can continue onwards to a 4-way junction that can lead you to the Cascade and Ridge Trail.
