Fast & fun - see if you can make the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs!

Nick Wilder

Starting at the upper parking lot next to the campground, you'll start out riding through trees with gentle sweeps. It's a bit rocky with a couple of short steep sections and probably not a beginner run.

There are a few small drops and rollers, and some rocky sections that pop up and force most riders to hit the brakes, but everything can be bypassed or easily rolled over.

The trail gets progressively more and more banked and flowy as you descend. Near the end it gets smoother and faster, and advanced riders might flow aggressively through the sweeping turns with no brakes and a big grin.

This trail is very popular, and is a bit more rutted then others.

Several trails intersect this one, but they're all well marked. At the bottom you'll hit Western Zip; take a left and you'll be back at the parking lot in 2 minutes.

Getting forecast...

Keep in mind this is a DH only trail, either ride the road or Prime Cut back to the top. This is one of the best mountain bike trails I've ever ridden, and I've lived in Breckenridge and Crested Butte and have ridden extensively in Colorado and Moab, as well as North Carolina and Virginia. This is a great trail for the beginner and more advanced. The beginner will like it for the gently downhill slope and lack of really technical stuff. The more advanced rider will enjoy the same gentle downhill and the speed on the banked turns that can be obtained. My wife who is not much into technical trails loves this one so much so she did it 3 times, that's unusual for her. Jul 6, 2014

This is another ride to do early in the day if you're looking to really enjoy this trail. There are a couple blind turns around trees coming out of the creek bed that aren't as banked as the others and surprisingly sharp. Run out is fine if you miss them though, just fyi. Jun 8, 2015
