Overview

The Hamilton Greenbelt has been around since 1990. It has matured over the years to become a first class trail network. Hamilton Greenbelt Trail Network, including Hurst Creek Preserve, offers several miles of both developed and primitive trails that wander along Hurst and Yaupon Creeks.

Lakeway City Park is a waterfront parkland that was acquired in 1992 and features over two miles of trails with great views and access to Lake Travis.

This Featured Ride routes you through the highlights and different terrains that both the greenbelt and city park have to offer. You'll see waterfalls, make multiple creek crossings (in wet times), and get great views of Lake Travis. The ride breaks down to about 20% intermediate/difficult, 50% easy, 30% intermediate.

Need to Know

This ride is great nearly year round. If there have been recent rains, better to give these trails 4 to 5 dry days to drain out and heal up.

60 to 70% of this ride has all-day shade. Most of the sun exposure is on the Lakeway Boulevard Hike and Bike Trail and Hurst Creek Road sections of the ride.

Description

The ride begins at the Lakeway Swim Center / Skate Park (free parking, water, and bathrooms). From here, you'll jump on the Lakeway Boulevard Hike and Bike Trail and head east (to your right).

From the Lakeway Boulevard Hike and Bike Trail, you connect into the Hamilton Greenbelt trail system where you pop onto some fun singletrack that winds around towards Yaupon Creek before heading out to Hurst Hollow where you'll get some great views of Lake Travis and the lake finger inlet. There is a particularly nice shaded overlook structure just before you go down into Hurst Hollow that has great scenic views.

The route will take you out and back from Hurst Hollow and make its way towards the Hamilton Greenbelt water fall near the Sailmaster Trail Connector. This is another great spot to rest and take pics (benches and shade).

The route continues out of the Hamilton Greenbelt on the Explorer Trail Connector towards Hurst Creek Road. Hurst Creek Road is a very 'biker' friendly stretch with a nice wide bike lane and minimal traffic (you may have 4 or 5 cars pass you, if that, on your way over to the City Park).

When you arrive at the Lakeway City Park, part of the ride you'll pop down some fun singletrack, and then around the Lake Loop Trail and Challenge Trail to drop you back off at the top of the park on Hurst Creek Road again.

From here, the ride will guide you back to Hamilton Greenbelt and back over to Lakeway Boulevard Hike and Bike Trail where you'll make your way back to the Lakeway Swim Center parking lot.

That's it. If you're hungry after the ride, try Torchy's Tacos, MOD Pizza, or Jason's Deli...all within a few minutes of the parking lot. :)
