Description

This is a mostly paved road but there isn't much traffic and it passes through a serene forest high above Lago di Lugano (lake). You'll have occasional views of the lake with the pre-Alps in the background, but the real treat is the Rifugio Alpe di Brusino at the end. From here, you can enjoy a great view of the lake 400m (1300 ft) below you while you feast on a hearty, tasty polenta with an appropriate beverage for the way back.

The surface switches from asphalt to forest road about 2/3 of the way just past the Hotel Serpiano.

The area is dominated by Monte San Giorgio (1097 m; 3600 ft), which lies to the east of this trail. Monte San Giorgio is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage site because of the exceptional nature of the fossils that have been found in the area.
