Overview

With lots of singletrack, lots of climbing, and a close proximity to Seattle and Duthie Hill Park, Grand Ridge gets some heavy use, day and night. No section is overly technical, but there are some steeper climbing sections as well as some loose turns along the descents to watch out for.

This route is mapped as a full out-and-back, but it's also possible to ride it as a shuttle if you leave a car at the main Duthie parking lot.

Description

From the East Sunset Way Trailhead near Exit 18, follow the sidewalk up the hill and across the street. Look for the connector that leads across the highway to join the Issaquah-Preston Trail. From there, it's a gentle mile-and-a-half pedal along the smoothly paved interurban trail until you reach the start of the Grand Ridge Trail on the left.

The bottom of the trail climbs sharply away from the Issaquah-Preston Trail to gain the ridge and then enjoy the rolling terrain up to a road crossing. Cross the road and continue onto the singletrack up a bit further before beginning the descent on the other side. Stay right at a fork after a long, straight, fast section, weaving your way down and crossing a slippery bridge.

Do a little bit of climbing and continue across more flat sections before hitting more downhill, bringing you to the Mike O Puncheon Bridge (built by the WTA in 2012) and a short climb to the road separating the Grand Ridge Trail from the Duthie Access Road.

From here you, could go explore the great trails of the Duthie Hill Intro Lap, head left on the Duthie Access Path (if you left a vehicle at the top), or head back the way you came for lots more singletrack climbs and descents.
