Description

Coal Knob might push the limits of a green trail, but the reward is worth the risks. It can be ridden in either direction, just be aware that you'll be thinking "I bet this is fun the other way" until you get up to the Coal Knob. Also, there are several alternate line features to play with on the trail, just be prepared to wheelie drop some, as they don't all transition smoothly.

If you are riding from the parking area, Coal Knob starts out pretty flat until it crosses FS Road 610, the trailhead for Cornplanter is on your left. Then, it begins to climb noticeably, with several rock features forcing you to work a little extra. As you get closer to the top, there are several built rock causeways that might look intimidating but are actually very easy if you pedal smoothly and hold your line. Once you get on top, you are treated to a cool section of eastern slickrock. After you roll off the back of the Coal Knob, you begin dropping through twists and turns all the way to the intersection with Longhouse Trail and Elijah. The trail terminates at FS Road 610 where you can continue on to Tuttletown.
