Family Friendly This is family friendly due to the lake amenities, possible fishing, hiking, and swimming.

Description

Traveling east on Highway 411, there is a parking pull-off large enough for about 3 cars about a quarter mile after the Norris Dam State Park entrance. The pull-off has a Marine Railway Loop sign and a metal gate. No bathrooms exist at the pull-off.

Be prepared to not pedal for the first three-quarters of a mile down the wide, rutty trail. Once you reach the bottom, the trail skirts the lake with some gentle ups and down. There is a peninsula that you can ride out onto for a dip in the lake during summer months.

At the point furthest from the trailhead, be prepared for a wicked climb (no shame in walking your bike!) At the top, there are cabins owned by Norris Dam State Park and a road that leads to the State Park amenities.

When returning, you can either choose to go up the second seriously steep climb (again, no shame in walking) that makes a beeline back to the trailhead or you can follow the tracks that you took on your way in. The climb follows the power-lines to the trailhead.

The peninsula juts out on the right hand side. You can spy the lake through the foliage.

Peninsula makes for a great spot to jump in the water. You may find a boat too.
