Overview

The Red Fleet loop is a clockwise tour of the flowing singletrack and slick rock trails in the Red Fleet trail system.

The loop has lots of up and downs with sweeping views of the surrounding desert landscape.

There are a few different options to make the ride longer or shorter depending on your time and fitness.

Description

The Red Fleet Loop starts on Jazz-Chrome Molly at the small access point on the lower end of Donkey Flats road. The ride begins by paralleling the road behind a small ridge going slightly downhill towards Highway 191. You'll approach a small and steep drainage as the highway comes into view. There are two options to get through; pedal in and out or cross the bridge over a large culvert pipe.

From here, continue around the end of a bluff and starts a longer gradual climb punctuated by a steep section to get up on a large, flat sloping sage meadow. Continue uphill past a livestock water trough on smooth singletrack.

Top out the climb and bear right at another water trough past an intersection with the upper portion of Jazz-Chrome Molly. After passing between some large pinion trees, pedal through open terrain across the flats.

The route eventually starts to descend off this part of the mesa, winding down into a dry valley. Stay right at the hairpin turn of Jazz-Chrome Molly and pedal out to Donkey Flats Rd via the JCM - Donkey Flats Rd Connector.

Turn left and pedal a short bit of pavement before jumping back into the singletrack on J-Boy.

This part of the ride initially climbs smooth singletrack to the north, up a small ridge and then turns east. It flattens out briefly and then passes through an intersection with the HBC Connector.

Continue straight here through terrain that features red dirt singletrack and twisted pinion trees. There is a short and somewhat steep climb toward a big sandstone mesa. J-Boy becomes very windy through here, following the edges of a hillside.

This part of the route tops out at a small saddle and begins a descent to the southwest. This part of the trail has some sections of slickrock and a few minor drops. The corridor of trees and shrubs are also tighter through here.

Continue straight through the intersection with HBC and drop down a rock ledge by a small tree. From here, the trail wraps around the bottom of the big sandstone mesa and then drops into a large slick rock drainage.

Cross the upper part of Donkey Flats Rd and start climbing again to gain a long, exposed rock cliff. The trail through here is right on the edge with expansive views of the Red Fleet trail area.

Near the end point of the cliff, the trail turns sharply left and begins a rowdy and technical descent, the most difficult part of the ride.

The challenge begins with a chunky drop between a giant cliff and a car-sized boulder. From there the trail snakes through a couple of tight turns around more boulders. The spiciness continues with a long, rock armored causeway that transitions into more tight switchbacks.

Ramble out to the bottom of J-Boy to a t-intersection with HBC. Turn left to finish the Red Fleet Loop on a trail that has both the technical challenge of slickrock and the playfulness of smooth singletrack.

This part of HBC is the start of a fun and occasionally steep descent over more slickrock. The views towards the sandstone canyons are awesome through here.

The last bit of the descent is on a slippery hill which feeds out onto the bottom of a dry wash.

On the other side, the trail begins a gradual rolling climb out on smooth and playful singletrack. The loop ends at Donkey Flats Rd across from the start of Jazz-Chrome Molly.
