This trail system is on private land, and portions are closed at times for land conservation work and erosion prevention.

Description

Named for the Scotch Highland cattle raised in Hinesburg by the late Henry H Carse, this trail is used to access the Carse Hills trail system from the north, and is a great ride in either direction.

From the small pullout on Lincoln Hill Road, the trail heads south across a meadow, then turns left and descends slightly before entering the woods. Gaining 400 feet in a mile and a half, the trail utilizes frequent switchbacks to maintain a good grade for climbing. Many smaller rock / root obstacles keep it interesting, as well as a few small bridges.

After passing the high point, the trail descends slightly and meets the Preacher trail 1.7 miles from where you started. A connector trail goes left here, Preacher drops down to the right.
