Overview

Pace Bend Park is located in Travis County in the Hill Country of central Texas. With over nine miles of shoreline at Lake Travis, this park is one of the most popular areas in the Highland Lakes region.

The west side of the park has tall, limestone cliffs and a number of rocky coves with some of the most impressive views available of Lake Travis, especially at sunset.

The majority of the park is easily accessible by vehicle from the six-mile, paved roadway that heads around the park. However, the interior of the park is managed as a wildlife preserve and can only be accessed by foot, bicycle, or horseback.

There are a number of trails that lead into these hills with excellent views of the lake and the Hill Country. This area provides a home to a number of whitetail deer, raccoon, fox, ringtail cat, and dozens of bird species.

Description

Starting from the main lot, dip into Lefty for a quick downhill run before two quick lefts on Powerline and Well Road. A few flowing sections lead you to the jeep road that is used for the start of the BSS Pace Bend race. Dive back into the singletrack at Wookie Way where you'll follow a good chunk of winding, wooded trail (extra credit loops available) with some technical features and logs, and the Rock Garden of Greatness.

Continue straight at the end as you roll into the Pack Trail and then back onto Well Road. From there, you'll pedal through Graceland and Tapeworm to another section of the Pack Trail. Along the way, you'll find a few more of those limestone ledges and rock gardens.

Merge onto Paleface Pass and head towards the northwest corner of the loop. As you make the turn to the south, stay left on North Croton for some twisting singletrack that descends and climbs steeply. Stay left at the intersection for a short bit on Straddle Yer Saddle before hanging a right on Pancho to do a short, inner loop. Complete the circle with the Pack Trail and Straddle Yer Saddle before finishing the ride on the most straight Powerline.

You'll have one short, punchy climb through here before a downhill cruise to the trailhead.
