Overview

This trail can be done in either direction either starting at the western part (I will name this Valdez/Minas de Buenavista entry) or at the eastern part (I will name this San Claudio entry). The entry points are connected by a paved road (Carretera Central de la Montaña - CCM). The finish point of the ascent is the small town of Valdez/Minas de Buenavista which is in a valley, so the ride will always consist of ascent/descent and ascent/descent to get back.

The nearest place to get food, water, and safely leave a car is the Casa del Campesino, about one kilometer to the east of the San Claudio entry, along the CCM.

Need to Know

Very remote, no cell coverage, no supplies.

Description

Take the steep trail up towards the village Valdez/Minas de Buenavista. Here there should be a shop, but don't rely on it. Head back on the alternative route and pass the waterfall San Claudio. You could also do it the other way round.

History & Background

In the maps this town is called Minas de Buenavista, but the locals refer to the town as Valdez. There should be a store with very limited supplies, but if you're lucky you might score a soft drink. I wasn't...
