Overview

Easy climb until you hit the Colorado Trail. From there, the loop rises 3,000 feet in 3 miles. This trail is difficult, technical, and steep. No cyclocross, gravel or rigid bike will suffice.

Description

This trail rises over 3000 feet feet in 3 miles at an average of 7% with some at 32%. The entire Colorado Trail is extremely rocky.

Begin the ride by parking in one of the three lots on the backside of Frisco, near the Temple Trail. Proceed toward the Copper to Frisco Bike Path. Ride up the path until you reach Wheeler Junction and the Wheeler Trail / CT - Segment 7: Miner's Creek Trail.

The rides most challenging portion, and largest climb, begins around mile eight at Wheeler Junction and the beginning of the Wheeler Trail. Push through!

After the four-mile climb (first on the Wheeler Trail/Miner's Creek and then continuing on Miner's Creek), you'll be rewarded with nearly continuous downhill singletrack for the rest of the ride, and some amazing peak views. Consider a break around Peak 6 before starting a long descent.

Turn north on the Peaks Trail, which will take you back to the parking lot in Frisco.

Good grief this trail was steep. And we started the ride already at high elevation for me. Man, was I glad to reach our turn-around point. The descent was seasoned heavily with Flow and served under blue skies.
