The full Confinale (2) extends further to the west, but the sections not mapped here isn't recommended for bikes.

Description

Starting from Via Cardono, this forest road climbs slowly towards the summit of Monte Sasso and the World War I era fortifications at the top. There are a couple of support structures for the fortifications along the way.

The trail ends when it reaches the cement trenches below the crown of the summit. From here, you should follow the Cavallasca (7) trail around the crown.

In reality, trail 2 continues as a footpath down the mountain towards Switzerland, but this section isn't bike friendly. After a steep descent including some stairs, it follows the Italo-Swiss border to the western end of the Parco Spina Verde.

The trails in this area are not well marked and maps are hard to come by, so you'll definitely want a GPX or the MTB Project mobile app for this one.
