Description

This trail is one of the more popular trails in the area. The main trailhead is at the KY Dam Village Horse Stables which features plenty of parking, portable toilet, a bike maintenance station, and a really nice bike wash station.

The trail features great views of Kentucky Lake and Kentucky Dam Village Marina. The trail bed is singletrack dirt that's not too rooty and well compacted. Trail features include bridges, log crossings, berms, rest areas with benches, and a nice wood wall.

It is normally ridden CCW but can also ridden CW. The trail has several connectors that allow shorter rides and partial loops. Staying to the right at junctions going CCW will keep you on track for the full loop. The only exception is the Cemetery trailhead where going straight is the way but don't worry—if you take the wrong leg, you'll find yourself at the alternate trailhead in just a couple hundred feet, so just go back. Maps are posted in several key areas and since the trail system is on a main lake point it is literally impossible to get lost.

Finally, there are Strava segments in both directions and lots of other cools segments to compete for. Anything under 60 minutes is a nice solid fast ride but you'll have to get under 45 minutes to compete with the best!

Note: The trail length if you ride the entire loop is approximately 9.5 miles using a Garmin 520 with a wheel sensor. Without a wheel sensor, both Garmin and Strava shows around 8.5 miles. Due to the tight twisty nature of most of the trail, the ping rate of the GPS just doesn't catch all the length. Also the elevation gain is more like 450-500 ft. Strava and Garmin both usually vary inside that range.

The trail is built on a peninsula, so there are several opportunities to overlook Kentucky Lake.

Excellent beginner/intermediate trail. Well designed with lots of switchbacks and curvy runs to prevent long uphill sections. One of my favorites. 7.4mi — 1h 20m
