The Old Military Road Trail is an easier route that follows part of a historic road built by the military in 1832. Many features of the original military road can still be seen from the trail. In its heyday, this road also provided access to settlers in the area and wagon trains headed west.
The trail starts with a nice view to the north from Winding Stair Mountain over the mixed oak and pine forest. Not too far in, the trail passes the intersection with the Choctaw Nation Trail and then descends steeply from Winding Stair Mountain into the forest.
The route then levels out and turns east, rolling towards the far end of the trail at Holson Valley Rd.
