Beautiful trail but more appropriate for hiking than biking.

Part of this trail travels through a wilderness area where bikes are not allowed. The trail here has been shortened to end at the boundary. Riders should keep the MTB Project mobile app handy as they approach the area as it's not well signed.

Description

A clear and very scenic singletrack that climbs in the hills. It was pretty much a hike-a-bike with only a few areas I felt confident enough to actually ride. It's very steep with loose rocks and prickly cacti everywhere. Of course, more skilled riders may appreciate the challenge.

I do feel proud of myself for carrying my bike up and "gettin' it done" however I do think next time I will hike this trail instead since that was basically all I was doing! I think my hiking speed would actually be faster because of the steep angles, loose sand, shale, and cacti deterrents. It took me 3 hours and 40 minutes to make the trek up and back down again.

The silver lining in this experience was the gorgeous desert blooms everywhere that made the ordeal worth it -- especially at the 1000 ft. on up level. March 2017 has been an AMAZING time for wildflowers in the area due to the 7 inches of rain this season.

The trail is popular with hikes, be alert and yield appropriately.
