Overview

This ride entails the most technical sections of Ketam Bike Park on Pulua Ubin park system of Singapore.

Note trails can only be ridden clockwise and are for bikers only!

Description

First, you need to get on Pulua Ubin (island between Singapore & Johor, Malaysia) by catching a bum boat type of ferry from the Changi Point Ferry Terminal. Cost as of Jan 2016 is $5 sgd if you bring your own bike and $2.50 sgd without a bike. Once you get on the ferry, you' take 10' ride on the bum boat to Pulua Ubin jetty where you disembark.

After walking down the pier you enter little tourist village that rents bikes (primarily for paved paths, but you can find low quality mtn bikes, so if you use one of these, be warned you may be walking it back). You can also load up on food, fluids, and our favorite cold beer after a few of these loops.

Head west out of the village and you'll see a park service building on the south side of road. You can check out the paved paths of the island on the map and pick out a good route to get you Ketam Bike Park. Its 1.5 to 2 miles of easy paved pedaling.

Note that here, trails are very well labeled with 6' high brown concrete signs. The trails are very short and for the most part run seamlessly into one another. I will call them out, but once you get into the jungle section its pretty simple and obvious how to go.

As you approach the start point of the ride, the entrance will be on right in grassy field. This first trail section, Blue Grass is a very easy trail that will take you up to small knoll where you cross a gravel service road. Upon crossing you can stay straight on small section called Pumpin'. If you want to test your skills there are some technical obstacles / boards off to the left. Else keep going forward onto an easy trail called Sea Breeze that will give nice view of strait back towards to Singapore.

This feeds into a gravel service road called Ubin Straits . This short section will soon intersect with another gravel access road, which you'll cross to enter Grassy Knoll. You'll then swing around large tall grass fields of singletrack. Park services frequently weed eat a few feet to each side of singletrack so you have good line of site while on trail. At the end of this small trail section, you'll intersect back with gravel access road, and cross onto Pine Ridge. This is the last of the real beginner stuff before entering the jungle portion of the ride. At end of Pine Ridge you'll be on the western end of Ketam Quarry. There is a nice hut and open area before entering the jungle trail. This is a great place for photos as well regrouping all of your riders before entering the fun stuff.

Welcome to the Jungle begins just after the hut. There is obvious signage that calls out the Golden Orb trail. Entrance here has a few 8" rock drops as you enter. If you are adventurous, there is large rock to the right of the entrance called Overshot that has some nice 16" rock steps/drops on the backside. Either way, be ready to climb as past these features, you start climbing on some switchbacks with some tricky root locations. As you finish Golden Orb you'll see a large sign at what looks like a trail Y. At this point you want to go to the right and climb immediately on a section called Black Forest.

From here the trails all tie seamlessly from one to the other and there are no intersections until you hit the upper northeast portion of reservoir where signs are labeled at the intersection. Enjoy this portion, as you rip through the forest!

At the intersection, right is Short Circuit and to left is more technical singletrack called Bird Ridge. Prior to this though, you'll work the north side of the reservoir. Keep going clockwise and you'll hit a nice climb in Lactate that has some nice rocks and a backside drop.

From here you work back to where you started on some nice wide packed jungle trail. As you approach the end, there is a nice technical off-shoot called Black Cobra where you climb hard and fast to be rewarded by some nice big rock drops/rock gardens on the backside.

Congrats you finished this tough loop!
