To do the complete ride, you'll need a Mammoth Bike Park pass.
You can cut the loop short by turning around at the bike park boundary.

Overview

This loop combines two of the better cross country trails in Mammoth. Uptown Trail and Downtown Trail. It's non-technical, buff singletrack that's fun for all skill levels. A great intro to mountain biking in the area. You can also combine it with many other nearby trails, to make epic loops of all proportions.

Need to Know

The Earthquake Fault Junction marks the entrance to the Mammoth Mountain Bike Park. Once you go past this point, you need a bike park pass if the park is open. If you don't intend to go further, you can always cut the loop short at this point.

Description

Start your ride at the trailhead across the street from The Village. The bottom half of the trail, up to the Earthquake Fault Junction, is public/free to ride. If you go past there during bike park hours, be prepared to show your ticket/pass. If you ride before/after park hours or when the park is closed for the season, it's all good. Continue on Uptown Trail all the way to Main Lodge of the Ski Resort / Bike Park. Then you turn around on Downtown Trail and make your way back to the trailhead at The Village.

Uptown Trail can be a grunt in some sections, but overall it's a manageable grade that twists and slithers its way through a pine forest and eventually across a couple ski runs on it's way to Main Lodge. By the time you get to the top, you've climbed 900' in just over 4 miles. Downtown Trail was widened slightly a couple of years ago to make it more family-friendly. Although it's been "sanitized" a bit, and can often have lots of brake bumps around the twisty turns, it's still a fun trail and worthwhile for all-comers.
