Overview

This is one of the best loops in the foothills to see what Boise has to offer. You'll get good climbs, nice traverses, and fast flowy single/doubletrack. This trail starts from Camelsback Park and ties the Camelsback trail network into the Military Reserve area and then brings you back again.

Description

Leave from the Camelsback parking lot and ride up past the Nature Center to a short climb up Kestrel Trail to Crestline Trail. Follow Crestline Trail to Sidewinder. From the top of Sidewinder tie into the Fat Tire Traverse. There is a nice reward for you efforts at the end with a fast decent on Freestone Ridge. At the bottom of Freestone Ridge start climbing again by way of the lower section of Three Bears. At the junction of Three Bears and Shane's Trail you'll get another traverse/decent into Bucktail Trail. Take Bucktail Trail out to the Military Reserve Connection and then it's back to the parking lot at Camelsback by way of Kestrel Trail.

While these trails see less use than some, they do get a decent amount of traffic. Be aware of other cyclists, hikers, and animals (lots of off leash dog sections).

Boise's Foothills get hot in the summer months and there is little shade along this route. Plan accordingly and bring some extra water and lather on the sun block....

Not my favorite "link-up". Forces you to ride reserve connector trail backwards. Freestone Ridge would be best ridden out of the reserve area.

I messed up multiple times. Go left on three bears, not the road. Could avoid the military route at the end. Ride kind of sucked. Pretty though! 18mi
