Description

The first and last parts of this trail are fast and smooth, the only part that makes this a black diamond is the rocky technical section in the trees which is short, but very fun.

If riding from town, ride east out of town on Elk Avenue and left on the gravel path just before a cattleguard to connect to the Rec Path up to the town of Mt. Crested Butte. Turn right on Hunter Hill Road go a short distance and turn right again on the continuation of HHR on the right. Ride down, then up past The Overlook turnoff. The singletrack starts at the first hard left switchback, where theres a parking area and a trail sign. After a couple moderate climbs, descend a technical section then roll through the open meadows.

After a half mile or so of riding in the open, youll meet up with Tonys Trail, which winds up from town to join the Upper Loop. If youre just out for a short spin, you can take a right and be back in Crested Butte after a few minutes of fast, winding downhill.

Continue riding another half mile or so and youll come to the intersection of Upper Upper Loop. You can bail out here as well, and turn right on a short downhill to finish Upper Loop near the Country Club.

Your other option is to ride the Upper Upper Loop. This trail is a technical challenge, with lots of rocky whoop-de-dos, and several steep and technical climbs.
