Description

Time to climb.

The trail starts and ends with serious grunts and has a long grind in the middle. The first push lasts for a little over a mile with the only significant amount of downhill a little over two miles up. Just before the downhill there is a great meadow for a recovery break.

Between miles 3 and 7 the trail winds along the ridge sometimes one side then the other making sure the views never get old.

Around 7 miles into the trail, you enter an old burn and encounter a steep push to reclaim the ridge line. While the trail before this point has been non-technical, expect a few rocks before gaining the ridge.

Expect to walk on the last push up to the high point. The trail doesn't quite reach the top of Rombo, but wraps around to the south and west before dropping to the saddle between Rombo and Piquett Mountains. If you are doing a loop with Piquett Creek, head that way. Otherwise, the top is about 0.1 miles off trail.
