Description

The Moab Rim has been famous as a gnarly jeep trail for decades, but it became very popular with mountain bikers for the short existence of the Moab Skyway chairlift. That mechanical assist is long gone so, once again, you have to pedal up to get the down.

This trail runs along a ledge of purplish sandstone on the anticline that rises along the Colorado River to form the cliffs defining the western side of the Moab Valley. It mirrors the infamous Portal trail on the other side of the river but never becomes as broken, narrow, and sandy as its reflection (Portal). Basically, the Moab Rim trail is slickrock all the way to the top. This sounds like good news, but there are brutal stair-step features that will most likely have you pushing your bike, and the angle is absolutely relentless.

Great on its own as an out-and-back ride, the Moab Rim is most commonly ridden when paired with Hidden Valley. Take the hike-a-bike up and out of town and traverse west toward the rim. This is an adventurous and strenuous ride that will reward you for your effort. Enjoy the final descent to the river and look out for Jeeps!

The climb out from the road is quite steep w/ some big stair steps. But definitely doable on a ebike! — 10h 30m

Started out up this trail, but it's beyond my abilities... Much more a Jeep trail than an MTB trail, although I am sure folks ride it all the time 0.8mi — 0h 21m

From Hidden Valley some up and downs on slick rock, then overlook then all DH on slick rock to river floor, all rideable with a few tricky ledges. — 0h 45m
