Overview

Jesusita is a local Favorite with approx 1600 ft of technical climbing that rewards you with one of the best views in town from Inspiration Point. 3.5 miles of Flowy singletrack mixed in with some tight switch backs and rocky sections await you on the descent.

Need to Know

Jesusita and Tunnel Trail are heavily used by many different groups and is a very popular hiking trail. Best ridden in the early mornings or evenings and be mindful of your speed while riding the trails.

Be sure to get a bike bell, distributed by the Santa Barbara Mountain Bike Trail Volunteers. The bells help other users on the trail be aware of mountain bikers.

Description

This trail drops down from Inspiration Point, a popular Santa Barbara hiking destination, to Stevens Park in the San Roque neighborhood of Santa Barbara. The lower section follows a creek, crossing it several times at rocky creek crossings. The middle section is realtively smooth and nicely shaded. The top of the trail near Inspiration Point is very rocky and challenging.

There are several access entry and exit points to Jesusita. It can be ridden as an out-and-back, starting at either Cater Water Treatment Plant or for a longer ride Stevens Park or as a loop starting from the Tunnel Trail up to Inspiration Point, and then come down Jesusita.

****
A nice alternative is to do this as part of a longer loop so as to cut down on the uphill traffic on Jesusita Trail. To do this, park at the Inspiration point trailhead. Climb up Spyglass Ridge Rd to the junction with Jesusita Trail (here called Inspiration Point - 7 Falls Connector) and take that to Inspiration Point, then descend down Jesusita Trail to San Rouque Road. Go down San Rouge and make a left on Foothill Blvd for 1.5 miles, then another left on Mission Canyon Rd to get back to the parking area.

One of SBeezy's finest...lots of hike and bike to inspiration point, but then all smiles. Tons of hikers always, ride at night to get it all to yourself.

Sticky mud in bottom sections from rain 2 days ago. I'd avoid if there has been recent significant rain.

Technical trail but worth the view on the top. 7.1mi — 2h 15m

A bit dusty, rock gardens were grippy though and the climbing was technical but doable with a few hike-a-bike sections.

Extremely dry with loose boulders. Not an enjoyable climb and not really worth the effort for the technical downhill afterwards. Disappointed. 6.8mi — 1h 45m
