Overview

Get ready for a sampler pack filled with steep climbs and rowdy descents, showcasing a large portion of the Southview trail system. This route links a series of climbs up well-built singletrack tracks to the top of Boneyard, a local classic descent. Boneyard takes you down an exposed ridgeline with jumps, drops, and rock gardens, on a double black trail. After smashing down Boneyard, you'll be rewarded with Black Ops, a well-built intermediate trail that provides similar terrain in a slightly easier fashion.

Description

Start by parking at the Southview trailhead near Cedar City. The trail starts right out of the parking lot. Follow the paved path for 100 meters to a well-marked trail to Lichen It.

Follow Lichen It for 2.8 miles on a mellow green trail with well-built switchbacks too a four-way intersection. At this point, continue straight onto Lava Link, where you'll be greeted with technical climbing over basalt rocks. Follow this trail for about 1 mile up steeper terrain until you reach Spare Rib. Take a right onto Spare Rib.

Once on Spare Rib, follow it down to Tombstone, a technical climb over basalt fields. This climb leads you to the drop-in of Boneyard. At this point, you can choose to pedal a short distance to a beautiful viewpoint or immediately begin your descent.

Upon entering Boneyard, you'll face a technical rock garden, then immediately encounter a ridgeline with huge doubles. Continue through steep berms into gentler terrain before reaching Black Ops.

Once on Black Ops, follow this high-speed, chunky trail through jumps, rock gardens, and a unique rock skinny feature before reaching Turnpike.

Turn Right on Turnpike and traverse cross-country terrain for 4.4 miles before returning back to the car. If you have the legs for it, you can also climb Elevate to Lava Link and back down Lava Flow, offering more downhill and hitting the best trail the area has to offer.
