A hard fought West Marin classic multi-use trail that's been manicured to a fault but still provides enjoyable miles.

Description

Connecting Barnabe Fire Road with Devil's Gulch Road, this historied trail was hard fought amongst the user groups to allow mountain bikers, but it now definitively does.

Starting from Devil's Gulch Road, look for the wide pullout before the horse camp with a trailhead marker sign pointing downhill to a river crossing at the bridge. Take this bridge over and you'll see a split with Barnabe Fire Road to your right and Bill's uphill to your left.

Take this left and start your ascent, continuing to follow the main Bill's signage. There are a few hiker-only offshots to your left, but just stay right and you'll start the switchback section. Grind these numerous u-turns out and you'll come to the point where Barnabe Fire Road joins back in.

From this upper intersection, either turn around and enjoy the sweeping downhill of Bill's or continue on to the top of Barnabe's to get a view of Blacks Mtn, Tomales Bay and the rest. From here, you can either point it down the doubletrack of Barnabe Fire Road or (preferably) get back on Bills for the switchbacking descent.

If you're looking for a loop you can also make a good ~10-mile ride by heading out on Barnabe Fire Road > Gravesite Road > Cross Marin trail > back on Barnabe to the top then descend down Bill's (making sure you look out for that right turn at the top).
