Family Friendly Took my 12 year old daughter. Some walking and tight switchbacks for beginners, but fun and do-able.

Overview

This loop will take you on one of the few trails in the East Bay with bicycle-legal singletrack. The park also allows off-leash dogs under voice control so bring along Fido to run with you while you ride.

Need to Know

No parking fees. To ride the stretch of fire road that passes through the EBMUD Pinole Valley Watershed a cycling permit must be purchased, either online or at their office off San Pablo Road.

Pit toilet at the trailhead. No potable water on site!

Description

The loop is a mix of mostly singletrack with some fire roads. Some sections of trail are in full sun whereas the trails that pass through the forest will offer good shade. This property is an active cattle ranch. Please close all gates after passing through. Keep dogs under control and avoid spooking the cattle. These trails have no difficult features but some of the climbs and descents are moderately steep.

Considering the lack of singletrack in East Bay, this trail is a hidden gem with nice flow and shade. Nothing technical but some steep climbs. 6.3mi — 1h 45m

Most of the climb is at the start in the sun, then a mix of lovely oak shaded sections and sun. Great ride with a couple of 11-year-olds. 5mi — 2h 00m
