Overview
Brutal climbs, awesome flowing singletrack, breather doubletrack, and a big awesome rock to hang out under halfway through make this a must-ride for the Boise mountain biker.
Description
This ride used to start from the Entrance Exam trailhead off of Bogus Basin Road. The Entrance Exam trail is now CLOSED. This recommended route has been revised to use the
Freddy's Stack Rock Trail #125 instead.
A quick descent along the contours of the hillside leads the way to
Eastside Trail. Don't worry, every junction has a sign pointing you in the direction of Stack Rock. Eventually, you'll come to the junction of
Eastside Trail, Sweet Sweet Connie, and of course, Freddy's
Stack Rock Trail.
It can be ridden in either direction, but clockwise is recommended. Even though the climb up to Stack Rock is a doozy, you'll be rewarded with very fun and flowing singletrack coming down the backside. Do be sure to hang out and enjoy Stack Rock, soak in the views, and have a snack.
Continuing beyond Stack Rock, the trail quickly turns into narrow, winding singeltrack. Besides the scenery of the trail's namesake, this is a really good reason to ride this trail—it's fun! The singletrack eventually comes down to an old roadbed, and you'll come to a junction for
Mr. Big. Going left takes you on a short section of
Mr. Big, whereas keeping right stays on Freddy's
Stack Rock Trail.
Mr. Big descends some more and eventually has a pretty decent climb back up to the beginning of the loop. The Freddy's
Stack Rock Trail remains an old roadbed back to the beginning, but it's fast and fun regardless.
Back at the main junction, you get to climb out of all that stuff you started the ride with! Don't worry, it's not as bad as you may think. The final push to the car is pretty darn steep but it's short.
