Overview
This ride has some very nice views at the top. The road winds for several miles after you reach the top but I turned around where you can see the views of Grandfather Mountain. The only gate is at the bottom where there is plenty of parking. There are views of 321 and Blowing Rock, and the trail ends at the bottom of Rocky Knob.
Need to Know
Must turn around at the end to return. There are trails to explore and ride to the Globe Road.
Description
This ride is made up of a great long climb to the top with views of Blowing Rock and Grandfather Mountain, then a fast ride back to the bottom. It starts on
Frankum Creek Rd #188 for just over a mile with a small incline for a great warm up before turning onto
Georges Creek Rd #4111 and the steepest, switchbacking climb. You can ride several more miles past Mills Knob and to the bottom of Rocky Knob. It’s about 7 mile to the end of the road. There are trails that drop off to Globe Road.
History & Background
The road was originally built for logging but has not been used for that purpose for several years.
