“This great trail travels through a shortleaf pine stand.
”
For safety reasons, all riders must register at either the North or South Welcome Station or the Golden Pond Visitor Center.
Description
Starting at the intersection of Telegraph Trail, take the yellow blazes (I did not see them last time I was on this, and the trail was kind of a mess, so look hard) and begin a gradual ascent into the dense shortleaf pine stand. At about 0.75 miles in, you'll begin to enter the densest portion of this beautiful stand of trees. Climb a bit further and you level out on the ridge where the pines give way to a mixed species forest. Descend till you connect with Devil's Backbone Trail. Either turn right onto the blue-blazed trail to make a nice loop back to the Telegraph Trail, or continue on until you connect with Artillery Trail.
