Description

This trail surface varies from cobblestone road to forest road with some sections of singletrack. There are a lot of side trails, but generally the Dorsale (ridge) trail is well marked as trail #1.

The southern end starts near the main roundabout in Camerlata. After a short ride through the city, you'll start immediately with a very steep (15-20%) cobblestone climb of 200 meters (650 ft) in 0.4 kilometers (0.25mi). At the top of the climb, you'll reach a junction with Colle del Baradello (10c). This is a very short spur trail that takes you to the castle on top of the hill.

Continuing on the Dorsale, the path now becomes more of a forest road as it passes through a large meadow where people like to picnic and play football (soccer). Around 1.0 kilometer (0.6 mi), the trail surface switches to singletrack as it passes through a dense woods. Shortly thereafter at the intersection of a tangle of trails after another short, steep climb, a short connector Punto Panoramico (Viewpoint) leads to the first viewpoint where you have a nice overlook of Como and the Lago di Como (lake).

At about the 2.0 kilometer (1.2 mi) mark, you'll reach Monte Caprino. Here, there is an intersection with Protostorico (11). Continue instead towards the right to stay on the Dorsale. Here, another short connector takes you towards the Croce di Sant'Eutichio (Cross of Saint Eutichius). There is a large metal cross overlooking Como and the lake.

After the cross, you've got another kilometer (0.6 mi) of forest road riding before a steep singletrack descent into San Fermo della Battaglia begins. There are some stairs in this singletrack section in the middle of the descent, so either be prepared to ride them or to stop and walk.

This makes a nice precursor ride to the Parco Spina Verde Ride for stronger riders (or for those who are taking the train) as it connects with via Cardono and Cavallasca (7).

It is easy to get to the start of this ride using the regional trains (bikes permissible, but you'll need a separate ticket for the bike). From Como Nord Camerlata train station, take via Scalabrini north directly to the start of this track.
