A long but very scenic climb up to the top of Poleta Canyon, which also makes for a fun descent.

Description

This narrow 4WD road cuts through a deep and beautiful canyon. You can climb it to get to make a loop with Poleta Canyon or descend it with a shuttle.

From the end of Warm Springs Road, Black Canyon Road heads up to the southeast to get into Black Canyon. The road narrows along with the canyon as it heads up. The steepest, rockiest section is found just below a rock slide. Further in, it enters black rock, with willows and cottonwoods along a creek.

Much further up, you'll reach the junction with the Black Canyon Trail from the right, where you should turn left to head up toward Poleta Canyon.

The middle section above here has been covered in sticks and debris to keep motorcycles out. It's legal for bikes, but not fun. The alternative route (Black Canyon to Poleta Climb (lower)) will prove a better option.

Figured I could make it up quickly on my e-bike. At mile 11 I was almost out of battery (4400' of climb at that point). Plan for extra food and h2o 11mi — 4h 00m

Great way to get to Poleta Canyon descent. Too much snow at the top. You are climbing 4K. Don't let the bare hills fool you in the winter. 20mi — 4h 00m
